Walter “Walt” Nelson was born on August 28, 1948 in LIttlefork, MN to Walter and June Nelson. He grew up in BIg Falls and graduated from Littlefork-Big Falls High School in 1966. Walt moved to Anoka after graduation. He met his loving wife Ellen Silverberg at the age of 15 at the deep hole on the Bigfork River. They married on August 19, 1967 at the Methodist Church in White Bear Lake, MN. Walt worked for George Deschenes and later Industrial Hardfacing until retirement.
Walt was a man of many talents and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved to spend as much time as he could in “God’s Country” Big Falls. Four-wheeling, hunting, car shows, tinkering and building his A&H Co creations, and time with family and friends were his passions. Walt is known for his stories and tall tales.
Survivors include his wife Ellen “Woman” of 54 years, their children Stacy (Lee) Pomeroy, Jason (Shelly) Nelson, and Chance (Ann) Nelson. His grandchildren: Cheyenne (Cole) Bieber, Echo (Jared) Dvorak, Andi and Amber Pomeroy, and Matthew and Katie Nelson, and great-granddaughter Brynn Bieber. Also survived by sisters Darlene, Betty, Karen, and Nina.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Butch, Bill, and Frank, sister Kathy Nordstrom, and great granddaughter Charlie Mae Gross.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021 from 12-4 pm with a memorial at 2:00 at Rockwoods Event Center in Otsego, MN. Another service will follow in Big Falls, MN at the River of God Church, 301 Hwy 71 N, Big Falls, MN at 1:00PM with a private family burial following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
