Wallace was born February 26th, 1936 to Wilhelmina and Edward Ohland in New Ulm, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibbon, MN. Wally attended Immanuel Lutheran School until 8th grade and then graduated Gibbon High School in 1954. In the early years, Wally worked on the family farm with his brother and enlisted in the US Army. In 1969, he married Irene Sachs in Elk River, MN. In 1976, they moved from Brooklyn Park to Elk River to live on a hobby farm in the country. Wally worked as a structural iron worker. He was a construction crew member of the IDS building, the tallest building in Minneapolis at the time. When he retired from iron work, he worked as a custodian at Elk River High School.
In 2006, Wally suffered a stroke which lead to a decrease in the quality of his life and health. We are grateful that he was able to meet his newest grandchild and celebrate his 84th birthday. Wally loved farming, drinking coffee at his favorite watering hole, promoting organic health and healing, and working and supporting St. Johns Lutheran Church and School.
His family remembers him as a loving father and husband who instilled in his children, the importance of hard work, caring for others and loving the Lord. We will miss him but are grateful to have shared life with him.
A special thank you to Guardian Angels Hospice for all the cares, love and support given to our family during Wally’s illness.
