Vello John Maegi, 74, of Dayton; following a courageous battle with COPD, passed away on March 13 of 2024. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda; his parents, Bernhard and Eleonore; his brother, Ben (Julie). He is survived by sons, Michael of Dayton and Brian of Mora; his brother Ralph (Linda) of Otsego; his grandchildren, Blake, Curtis, and Kayla.
Vello was born in Geislingen, Germany and immigrated to the US at age two. He grew up in Brooklyn Center and graduated from Osseo High School in 1967. After serving in the US army from 1969-1972 he and his wife settled in Dayton, MN. Vello retired from John Deere and company after 30 years.
Vello was a skilled bowler, golfer, sharp shooter, woodworker, and an avid reader. He was known for his loyalty, kindness, intelligence, and attention to how he dressed.
Memorial services are at 3:00 pm Friday, March 22 at Dare’s Funeral and Cremation Services in Elk River. A visitation will take place one hour prior.
