Timothy "Tim" Waulters Obituary

Passed away peacefully at his home in Elk River on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the age of 83, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, family members and his beloved pet cat (named Ghost) were by his side.

Tim was born on April 21, 1939, in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He was adopted, and raised, by his grandparents Earl and Ethel Waulters. As a child, the family moved to a farm in Stacy, Minnesota where he spent his childhood years. In his teens, Tim moved to Edina Minnesota, where he started a job at Erickson’s Service Station, and graduated from Edina High School in 1958. Tim’s job at the service station was where his passion to work on engines began. His high school yearbook notes that “he had a love of cars and loved to spend time “hopping” up engines and motors”. This passion followed him throughout his life, as a father “hopping” up his son Rob’s Quarter Midget to participate in the Minnesota Quarter Midget Racing Association at the Elko Speedway, to the farm he was so proud of. After High School, Tim began a career in truck driving that spanned over 50 years, the last 40 years of his career were with Progressive Contractors, Inc. (PCI). Tim drove millions of miles without an accident, prided himself in knowing the best routes to his destination and enjoyed recounting stories about all the road-building projects he delivered the heavy equipment to.

In 1975 Tim purchased his farm in Elk River, where over the years he raised cattle and crops, which gave him ample opportunities to work on engines and motors. He valued hard work and became skilled in a wide range of mechanical and construction knowledge. He loved the challenge of figuring out how to fix and build things.

Tim was a real Do-it-yourselfer. When he was not driving a semi-truck or tractor, he was working on remodeling his home, making repairs to his farm equipment, splitting firewood, or working in the vegetable garden. Tim had a love for animals throughout his life, he enjoyed caring for his livestock, the companionship of his golden retrievers and cats, and watching the birds.

In his spare time, Tim enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed immersing himself into the culture of his travel destinations, and long walks on the beach.

Tim met his wife Sherry in 1992 in Rockford, Minnesota. Sherry joined him on the farm working along side him on all the house remodeling projects and gardening. They enjoyed 30 years together on the farm, traveling, fishing, camping, antiquing, and spending time with family and friends.

Tim is survived by his wife Sheryl (Sherry) Euerle, his children Tammy Reddington, Robert Waulters, Melissa Compton, Steven Waulters, Adam Waulters, and Kari (Martin) Volkmann-Carlsen, his sisters Carol Carter and Susan (Tom) Robinson, 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Earl and Ethel Waulters, his mother Joyce Dotzler, and his sister Diane Thomas.

In the spirit of Tim’s Do-It-Yourself lifestyle, a celebration of life is planned for Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the farm he loved in Elk River, 19024 Baugh St NW at 11:00 am. Visitation one hour before the service, followed by a lunch. Casual attire is welcome.
