Susan M. (Ferderer) Howry

Susan M. Howry, 61, passed away peacefully in her home on March 18, 2025, in Ramsey, MN.

Susan graduated from Mandan High School in Mandan, ND in 1981. She moved to Minneapolis, to attend the University of Minnesota. She double majored in Sociology and Spanish. In 1988, she married Mark Howry, of Mandan, ND. Together, they founded Howry Residential Services, dedicating their careers to advocating for and empowering persons with disabilities, making a meaningful impact on countless lives.

Beyond her professional work, Susan had a deep love for history and beauty, which she expressed through many creative avenues whether it be through her writing or her appreciation of antiques. She had a massively vibrant spirit, never missing the chance to enjoy live music. No dream was too large for her.  In her 40’s, she learned to play bass and played in a band.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Randi Howry; her sisters, Ione (Gordon) Eckroth, Joan Otto, Renee Odenbough, Carleen Dutchuk; her nephews, nieces, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and grand-dogs. She also leaves behind her precious dogs, Cecilia, Harrison and Bunni.

Susan will be remembered for her kindness, adventurous spirit and unwavering dedication to others. Her legacy of generosity and passion will live on in the many lives she touched, especially through her daughter.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Charles Howry; son, Robert Steven Howry; her parents, Roy and Irene Ferderer; her brother, Ronald Ferderer; her parents-in-law, Dean Howry and Viola Keys; brother-in-law, Bob Howry; and her cherished dogs, Eddie, Billy, Louis, and Doodle.

Memorial services will be privately held. Susan deeply loved flowers, and if you’d like to send them, please do so to the following address. All flowers will be displayed throughout the group homes which she cared so deeply for.
