Susan Marie (Hardin) Bakken

Susan Marie Bakken of Elk River, Minnesota, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the age of 68. Susan was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on February 10, 1957 to David and Mary (Vanshur) Hardin.

Susan was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, always putting the needs of them before her own. She would give the shirt off her back without a second thought, showing kindness and love in every action. Though she could be stubborn at times, she had the most vibrant and spunky personality. Her warmth, generosity and loving nature left an impact on all who knew her.

Together with her husband, Dennis, Susan formed a dynamic team that shared not just a life, but an incredible journey together. Whether it was truck driving, bus driving, or driving the care cab, the two of them traveled many miles and helped countless people along the way. Their bond was unbreakable, and they made a difference in the lives of others through their hard work and selflessness. Susan often said the 47 years married to Dennis were the best 47 years of her life.

Susan enjoyed arts and crafts, reading, and watching tv shows like Raggedy Ann and Andy, Hawaii 5-0 and Chicago PD. Susan’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary Hardin.

Susan will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Dennis Bakken; children, Brian Hardin, Dennis Bakken Jr., Christina (Zach) Soule; grandchildren, Dennis III, Tyler, Katie, Haylee, Brandon, Madison, Caleb, Wyatt; brother, Mike Hardin; and many other family and friends. She was loved by everybody!

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Elk River American Legion Post 112, 525 Railroad Drive, Elk River, MN.
