Shawn Ramon McElmury

Shawn Ramon McElmury, age 65 of Oak Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Winona, MN on February 17, 1960 to Ramon and Charlotte (Gamble) McElmury.

Shawn grew up in Minnesota City and graduated from Winona High School. He furthered his education at Winona Tech. He was a dedicated Engineer with Hoffman in Anoka for 38 years until his retirement in April 2019.

On March 25, 1995 Shawn married his soulmate Carman Erickson. Together they enjoyed the outdoors, their love of music and traveling with their Harley’s.  Seldom you saw one without the other. 

Shawn was the epitome of an outdoorsman. He enjoyed cutting and chopping wood (no dead tree stood a chance around him).  He loved hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, traveling, and riding his Harley. His pride and joy were his son Nick and his grandkids.  He had a special place in his heart for all his family, friends, and hunting dogs. Most often you would find Shawn in the garage tinkering and listening to his favorite songs.

Shawn was a champion for everyone he knew, his family, friends and coworkers, always wanting the best for them. He had the biggest heart and was one of the happiest and most fun loving individuals one would meet. He will be missed by all!

He is preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte McElmury; brother, Russell McElmury; and his grandparents.

Shawn is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Carman McElmury; son, Nick (Angelina) McElmury; grandchildren, Gunnar, Hughie, Daphne; father, Ray McElmury; brothers, Les (Heidi) McElmury, Mike (Kelli) McElmury; parents-in-law, Ernest and Carol Erickson; brother-in-law, Kevin (ShaVon) Erickson; and many nieces, nephews, family and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2026 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with a time of sharing at 7:30 PM, at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main Street NW, Elk River, MN.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, at Elk River Lutheran Church, 729 Main Street NW, Elk River, MN.
