Sandra Kay Moon (Swanberg/Teeter/Honda), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born on July 19, 1947, in St. Johns, Michigan, Sandra—affectionately known as Sandy—lived a life defined by strength, compassion, and devotion to family. Though no words can fully capture the depth of her accomplishments or the breadth of her love, her legacy is evident in the many lives she touched.
Sandy grew up and lived in many places throughout her life, including California, Panama, Alaska, Washington, Minnesota, and North Dakota. During her time in California, she became one of the first female surfers to ride its beaches—an early reflection of her adventurous and independent spirit.
Sandy dedicated more than 40 years of her life to nursing, serving as both a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and a Registered Nurse (RN). Her career spanned numerous settings, including the Fargo Correctional Facility, surgical departments, nursing homes, in-home care, clinics, and hospitals. In addition, she continued to work for several years after retirement with the Catholic Charities of North Dakota. Nursing was more than a profession to Sandy—it was her calling. She gave of herself wholeheartedly, not only caring for others but also saving lives. Her compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment to helping those in need made her truly extraordinary.
Above all, Sandy cherished her family. She was a strong, independent woman who loved her children deeply and found her greatest joy in spending time with friends and loved ones. Her warmth, generosity, and giving spirit will be remembered always.
Sandy is reunited in heaven with her parents, Kathleen Marie Durham and Basil Lewis Moon, and her brother, Larry Albert Moon.
She leaves behind her children, Larry and Jeff; her grandchildren, Kayla and Dakota; her great-grandchildren, Preston and Olivia; husband Ralph and her siblings, Wendy, Linda, and Paula.
A private memorial service will be held this summer in California, near her brother Larry Albert Moon, whom she had fond memories of and was close too, as well as a celebration of life will be held to honor Sandra Kay Moon’s memory.
Sandy will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
