Sandra L. Holien

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Dare’s Funeral Home in Elk River, Minnesota, for Sandra L. Holien, age 79, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 5, 2025.

Sandra was born on November 24, 1945, to Lee and Carolyne (Suppan) Bartlett in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating from St. Anthony’s High School, she went on to study at the University of Minnesota. Sandy worked as a Business Operations Manager at the Elk Ridge Health Clinic in Elk River for 20 years. She married the love of her life Richard Holien, on October 26, 1965, in Minneapolis, MN. They went on to have a beautiful family, raising two sons: Jason and Matthew.

Sandy enjoyed arts and crafts, glass making, and showing horses with Matt in his youth. She will be remembered for her caring, adamant, loving, persistent, and thoughtful nature. She deeply cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a bright light in so many lives and will be missed dearly.

Sandy is survived by her children, Jason (Amy) Holien and Matthew (Nicole) Holien; grandchildren, Amanda (Rick) Cartwright, Elizabeth (Alex Balken) Holien, Michael (Wynter) Holien, Quintin (Olivia Smith) Kukowski, and Abigail (Jonathan Tran) Holien; great-grandchildren, Carter and Brynlee Cartwright; siblings, Carol Villella, Susan Bartlett, Nancy Bartlett, Mary Olson, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard “Boompa” Holien and her parents.
