Romane Kaufmann Obituary

After a 90 year earthly journey, Romane Albert Kaufmann was called home on January 11th, 2025.

On February 11th, 1934, Romane was welcomed into the world by Catherine and Albert Kaufmann in Howard, SD. He would eventually become one of 14 children (Dolores, Norbert, Lorraine, Carol, Richard, Marvin, Joyce, Rita, Marilyn, Gary, Jim, Denny, Suanne), he always cherished the memories of growing up on a farm with them. One memory that gave him joy was when his dad brought him and his brother Norbert (13 yo) to a cattle auction when he was 9 yo, and left them to buy the cattle while their dad went into town. He was so honored that his dad trusted them with that important task.

Romane joined the Marines where he spent time in California and Japan, he was proud to have served his country. He then met the love of his life, Judith Kachmarek (deceased 2010), and started a family of his own. During their 52 year marriage they enjoyed traveling the US, their cabin, and time spent with family.

They had 3 children (Julie, Steve (Debbie) and Becky), 8 grandchildren (Shannon (Neal), Matt, Jesse, Aaron, Keleigh, Nick, Joe and Sara) and 8 great grandchildren (Blake, Jacob, Caleb, Eden, Zoey, Cal, Ava, Aaron). He was a fun and loving dad, grandpa, and great grandpa who loved to joke and tease.

Romane worked in finance. He was the president of a bank before joining John Deere’s financial branch where he worked until retirement. He often spoke of how well John Deere treated him during his wife’s illness and offering him an early retirement (with pension) so he could spend time with her.

Later in life Romane married Lois Ball (deceased 2023) and after her death moved into Walker Methodist in Anoka where he lit up the halls with his sense of humor and playfulness.

After an accident, Romane spent his last days at Mercy Hospital and the family is appreciative of the care and comfort he was offered there as he set off on his new journey in heaven.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Elk River, MN for Romane. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Luncheon to follow service.
