Roger Allen Schmitz

Roger Allen Schmitz, 74, of Prior Lake, MN died at home on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.

Roger was born on July 20th, 1947 in Adrian, MN, the son of Marvin and Loretta (Pelzel) Schmitz. He attended school in Butterfield, MN and then St James, MN.  He furthered his education at Control Data Institute and Mankato State University.  On April 20th, 1968, he was united in marriage to Kira Sorensen (53 years).  His career was in sales for acoustical ceilings in Mankato, MN and the Twin Cities area.  He retired in 2012.

When not working, he enjoyed spending much of his time with family and friends.  He was always trying to find the good in people and bring out their best.  His laugh was infectious and generally brightened the room.  He and Kira were extraordinarily active in the Elks organization.  He also loved to bowl, golf, play games, cards, follow sports, and spend time on the lake.

Roger is survived by his wife Kira; 2 children, Mason (Karen) of Brooklyn Park, MN and Monte (Dawn) of Shakopee, MN; 4 Grandchildren, Kendall and Zachary Schmitz and Cy and Isabelle Walker; and siblings Nancy (Kim) Olson, Dennis (Sue) Schmitz; Mark (Gail) Schmitz, Jeff (Kris) Schmitz, and Troy (Bonnie) Schmitz; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service Saturday, March 19, 2022 12 Noon at Dare’s Funeral Home 805 Main St. NW Elk River, MN 55330 visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. Private Interment.
