Roger Norman Schaar was born on October 2, 1937, in St. Paul, MN. He grew up on a dairy farm in Hastings, MN and graduated from Hastings High School in 1955. After graduating from High School, Roger enlisted in the US Marines and served for four years. He joined the US Air Force Reserves and served as a Loadmaster on the C1 30’s, or as he affectionately called them, “Dirty 30’s”. Roger worked at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Farmington, MN until his retirement in 1995. He continued working as a Loadmaster with the Air Force Reserves until he was forced to retire due to a motorcycle accident that permanently injured his leg.
In 1961, Roger married Pearl Johnson, and together they raised their four children, Dale, Debbie, Laurie and Becky in Farmington, MN.
In 1983, Roger married Nancy Thiele and they enjoyed 40 loving years together. They resided in Elk River, MN and Yuma, AZ.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Ethel Schaar and his youngest daughter, Becky Lynn Schaar.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Schaar of Elk River, MN; his children, Dale Schaar of Maple Grove, MN, Debra Kneen of Brooklyn Center, MN and Laurie Beaulieu of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, Emily (Kyle) Kilpatrick, Evie (Aaron) Macrunnel, Megan Kallevig, Perry Kallevig, Amanda (Rob) West, Alex (Alyssa) Beaulieu, Samuel Beaulieu and Rachel Spellman; siblings, Rudi (Charlotte) Schaar, Janet (Bob) Selstad and Joan (Charles) Wachter; step-children Kathy Depoto, Laurie Hissen, Julie (Darrell) Peterson, Mary (John) Townsend and many step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren.
Roger passed away in home Hospice on March 6, 2024, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with Dementia.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to Kathy Depoto for her compassionate care of Roger during the last five months of Hospice care, and your support for your mother, Nancy, during this difficult time.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 11AM with visitation 1 hour prior at the Dare's Funeral Home, 805 Main Street NW, Elk River. Interment later at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
