Richard V. Nichols

Richard “Dick” Nichols, age 77 of Otsego, passed away on December 18, 2023.

Dick was born on December 16, 1946, to Vern and Ione (Klenk) Nichols in Albert Lea MN. He graduated from St. Louis Park High School in St. Louis Park, MN in 1964. He married Joan “Joanie” (Dauffenbach) Nichols in 1988. Dick was a Quality Engineer who retired in 2010 after working 28 years for Honeywell/ATK followed by 14 years at Seagate Technology.

Dick enjoyed being involved in his Otsego community where he served 27 years on the Otsego Planning Commission and more recently delivered Meals on Wheels. He trained gundogs as a hobby for over 40 years, was an active member of the Minnesota English Springer Spaniel Club, The Minnesota Heartland English Spring Spaniel Club, and The North Country Gordon Setter Club. In his leisure he enjoyed cooking, reading, playing cards, drives in the country, training dogs and spending time with friends and family. 

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Vern and Ione Nichols. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joanie; daughter, Kim (Mike) Vernon; granddaughter, Sarah Vernon; brothers, Ross (Marlys) and Randy (special friend Glee); furry friend, Sky; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Dare’s Funeral Home in Elk River. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Guardian Angels Senior Services, C.A.E.R. food shelf, or the donor’s choice.
