Richard Frank “Dick” Harter, age 80, of Ramsey, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 9, 2025.
He was born on January 4, 1945, to Wilfred and Clara (Zahler) Harter and was of five children raised on the family farm in Watkins, Minnesota. Dick attended Kimball High School and, after graduation, worked for a telephone company before being drafted into the United States Army.
On June 22, 1968, Dick married Marie Shubert at St. Aloysius in Olivia. After marrying Marie, he worked at Minneapolis Electric Steele and later at Burlington Air Express before retiring. During retirement, Dick continued to nurture his passion for cars by working part-time at Elk River Ford.
Together, Dick and Marie shared 57 years of marriage, enjoying card games, trips to the casino, gardening, and spending time with friends. He especially loved spending time in his garage tinkering with projects and enjoying a cold beer.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Kari (Brian); son Richie (Devin); grandchildren, Brianna (Dustin), Brennan, and Holli; brother, James (Ruthie); sister, Laurie; and sister-in-law, Jeanne; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene; and sister, MaryAnn.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 12:30 PM, with visitation beginning at 11:30 AM, at the Church of Saint Andrew in Elk River. Burial with Military Rites will be held at St. Andrew Cemetery in Elk River. Luncheon to follow.
Dick’s warmth, humor, and devotion to his family and friends will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
