Norman J. Zimmer

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10:30 AM held at Church of St. Andrew in Elk River for Norman Zimmer, age 91, of Elk River, Minnesota who passed away on September 17, 2024, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  

Norman Joseph Zimmer was born on April 1, 1933, to Wilfred and Angela (Robeck) Zimmer in Albertville, Minnesota. He worked on his neighbor’s farm until he turned 18; he then worked for Ceco Steel for 40 years before his retirement in 1990.  He married the love of his life Mabel (Weicht) Zimmer on June 8th, 1957, in Albertville, Minnesota. They went on to have a beautiful family with four children. He enjoyed farming, being on the tractor, gardening, and playing cards. He would find a way to fix anything, even if it was not always the safest way to go about it; but he knew that God and Mabel were always watching out for him. Norman was a joker and had a contagious laugh. He will be remembered for his hardworking, tough, strong-willed, kind, helpful, and mischievous nature. He above all cherished the time spent with his family. He was a bright light in so many lives and will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mabel Zimmer; children, Carol Zimmer of Big Lake, MN, Jane (Chris) Lowe of Jordan, MN, Mary (Mark) Thompson of Elk River, MN, and Julia (Lloyd) Dehn of Shakopee, MN; siblings, Harry, Marion, Kenny, Bernie, Dennis, and Margaret; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred, Angela and Step-mom Isabel; siblings, Richard, Melvin, Allen, LeRoy, Donnie, Kate, Matzy, and Dorothy; Son-in-law, Ray Benedix.
