Nancy Fink Obituary

Nancy passed away unexpectedly at home on the morning of May 27th.  She was born on June 6, 1954, in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She was the eldest daughter of Lois (Graber) and George Carr. She attended St. Peter & Paul’s Catholic School, Grades 1-8, and graduated from Blue Earth Area High School. She went on to earn a degree in Early Childhood Education from Hutchinson Community College.  Nancy eventually moved to the Twin Cities area where she met her husband.

In 1996, Nancy married Joseph G. Fink, the love of her life. Nancy and Joseph lived for many years in Brooklyn Park, where they operated a licensed family child care business out of their home.

Nancy and Joseph  eventually bought their dream house in Elk River, ideally suited to continue their home child care business.

Throughout her life, children were Nancy’s passion. She joyfully embraced her role as step-mother to Joseph’s two children, Matt and Amanda Fink, and was delighted to welcome grandchildren, Leo, Sidney and Benjamin.  She also loved the children she and Joseph cared for through their child care business. Nancy treated each of the children in their care as her own, celebrating birthdays and other milestones and always sharing stories about them.

Nancy’s other interests and talents included crafts such as needlepoint, crocheting and creating gifts, party favors and decorations for family celebrations.  Nancy was also a talented cook and especially enjoyed baking, including her famous cinnamon rolls. She loved spending time with family, and looked forward to an annual women's weekend she took with her mother, cousin, two sisters, and nieces.

She is survived by her husband Joseph; step-children Matt (Laura) Fink and Amanda Fink (Joe Hanson); grandchildren Leo, Sidney and Benjamin; mother Lois (Orlyn) Joyner; sisters Carolyn (Bill) Latady and Virginia/Gigi (Kellie Jones) Carr; brothers Richard Carr and Jim (Katie Markell) Carr; cousin Marsha Smith; nieces Morgan Carr-Markell, Veronica and Karlie Jones-Carr; and beloved pets Rosebud and Mooch.

Nancy had many wonderful qualities, including her sense of humor and infectious laugh, but her defining qualities were that she was a warm, motherly and accepting caregiver.  She will be remembered by all of us with gratitude and love.
