Rev. Martin Samuel Langemo was born on October 3, 1935, at the Owatonna, MN hospital. He was the son of Martin Andreas Langemo and Mildred Sarah (Mosher) Langemo. He was raised in Claremont, MN and baptized July 24, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church (LCMS) of Havana Township. They lived in Claremont until the 7th grade, when the family moved to Deer Creek, MN. Rev. Langemo was confirmed on June 19, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS). He was active in sports, music, and theater during his high school years, graduating from Deer Creek High School in 1953.
After high school, he attended St. Cloud State Teachers’ College for two years, and then went into the United States Army, where, after basic training, he served with the 7th Field Artillery Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division, stationed in Fort Riley, KS. After his discharge from the Army, he attended college for a few months at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, taking a course in insurance. He then got a job in Minneapolis, MN, as a claims adjustor with Great Northern Insurance Company.
He married Carol Ann Randgaard of Staples, MN, on June 28th, 1958. He went to work for Northwestern National Bank of Minneapolis until they moved to Springfield, IL, in the summer of 1959, so he could begin his studies for the ministry at Concordia Theological Seminary of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), graduating from there in 1964. He served his vicarage year, 1962-1963, at Christ Lutheran Church, La Mesa, CA, then returned to Springfield for his last year at the seminary. From there, he served congregations in Guildford College in Greensboro, NC, Chisholm, MN, Wheaton, MN, Canby, MN, Silver Creek, MN, and Little Falls, MN where he finally retired. After retirement, he served as a vacancy pastor for many congregations and as chaplain at Good Shepherd Community in Sauk Rapids, MN.
While in Guilford College, he joined the Guilford College Jaycees, who, in 1966, nominated him as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. He was the local chapter’s character and spiritual guidance counselor. He also chaired the Guilford College PTA. While in the Southeastern District of the LCMS, he was counselor for the district and zone Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and for the zone Walther League.
During his ministry in the Minnesota North District of the LCMS, he served as district and zone counselor for the LWML. While in Canby, he also served as the Circuit Counselor for the Montevideo circuit. As circuit counselor for nine years, he served on various committees for the district.
Pastor and Carol were blessed with six children and seven grandchildren: Marty (Janine and sons, Zach and Josh) of St. Paul, MN; Judy (Rev. Dan Roth) of Philadelphia, PA; Jimmi (Dreya and his daughter, Sadie) of Minneapolis, MN; Mary (Soli Hughes and son, Chaz) of Big Lake, MN; David (Drew) of Minneapolis, MN; and Tom (Rhea and children, Ethan, Cyrus (Erikka), and Sam) of Prior Lake, MN.
Rev. Langemo is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; father and mother, Martin and Mildred; sisters, Ilah Johnson and her husband, Bill, and Clorice Truax and her husband, Bill; brother-in-law, Ron Ohman; nephews, Danny and Robb Truax; father- and mother-in-law, James and Hazel Randgaard; brothers-in-law, Richard Randgaard and his wife, Lucy, and James Randgaard and his wife, Mona; sister-in-law, Judy Randgaard; nephew, Kevin Dosmann.
He is survived by his children and their spouses; sister, Marlys Ohman; brother-in-law, Roger Randgaard; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on December 13, 2025 at 1:00pm, visitation 1-hour prior, at Lord of Glory Lutheran Church 15550 190th Ave NW, Elk River, MN 55330.
