Maria (Kakulina) Sarafanov

Maria Sarafanov, age 97 of Otsego, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Ukraine on February 6, 1926.  

In 1956, Maria and her husband, Dimitri, and two sons moved to America. She loved helping her daughter-in-law with daycare for 17 years. She enjoyed plastic canvas crafting and her family. 

Maria’s selfless and kind attitude will dearly be missed by all. She was the most loving and caring individual one would ever meet. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dimitri Sarafanov; daughter-in-law, Joanne Sarafanov; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Sarafanov; and parents, Boris and Daria Kakulina. 

Maria is survived by her sons, Vladimir Sarafanov, Jurij Sarafanov; grandchildren, Crystal (Joe) Demuth, Erik (Barbra) Sarafanov, Larisa Shonyo, Jennifer (Dusty) Norquist, Lorali Sarafanov (Ryan Kerr); great-grandchildren, Gavin Norquist, Aidan Shonyo, Carter Norquist, Ethan Demuth, Charleigh Sarafanov; and many other family and friends. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a Russian Orthodox Service at 12:00 PM, at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main St NW, Elk River, MN. Interment at Sunset Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
