Maria Nemeth Gremsperger, 1936–2026, was born in Agyagosszergény, Hungary, to Nemeth Istvan and Csiszar Rozalia. She was one of six children, growing up alongside her siblings Amalia, Rozalia, Istvan, Irma, and Imre.
In 1956, Maria arrived in America, beginning a new chapter of courage, hope, and perseverance. Just two days after arriving, she met her future husband, Frank Gremsperger, in Elk River, Minnesota. Together they built a life and family, sharing 25 years of marriage until Frank’s untimely passing.
Maria and Frank made their home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, where they raised their three children: Maria-Gremsperger Degroot, Frank Gremsperger (Kelline), and Suzan Michienzi (Leonard). Later in life, Maria moved to Isanti, Minnesota, where she lived with her daughter Suzan for 29 years.
After the loss of her beloved husband, Maria never remarried. She devoted herself to raising her children as a single mother, offering them strength, love, and steadfast care. Her life reflected resilience, independence, and deep dedication to her family.
Maria had a special love for gardening and animals. She found joy in nurturing living things, whether tending to plants or caring for the animals she cherished. Those who knew her will remember her gentle spirit, her devotion to family, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life.
Maria is lovingly remembered by her children and her grandchildren, Taylor Degroot (Zach Alery) Alisha Gustafson (Ben Gustafson), and Chelsey Knaack (Ben Cooper), and her great-grandchildren, Quinn and Gavin Gustafson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gremsperger and many loved ones
Maria’s legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply and in the memories of all who were blessed to know her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 2nd, 2026, at 11am, with visitation 1 hour prior at Dare's Funeral Home in Elk River, MN.
