Leora (Lee) Cohrs Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at the age of 85.

Born on May 23, 1939 to Selma and George Spielman, Leora (Lee), grew up in Westbrook, MN, graduating from Westbrook High School in 1957. She married Sherwin Cohrs on February 13, 1960.  In their early years of marriage, the couple moved frequently for Sherwin’s work in construction, and began raising their family along the way. They settled in Marshall, MN for some time then eventually to Elk River, MN in 1971. They were fortunate to live the rest of their lives together in the Elk River area, including 40 of those years at their beloved home on Proctor Road.

One of the most special things about Lee was her natural love and gifted ways of taking care of children. She shared those gifts with many families in the Elk River community as she provided an in-home daycare for 35 years. It was a blessing that most of her grandchildren were able to attend daycare there as well.

In Lee’s free time and into retirement, she enjoyed going for walks, doing ceramics, bird watching, and going to her grandchildren’s sporting events. She and Sherwin loved their many years of playing in their 500 card club, and enjoyed traveling to such places as Hawaii, Arizona, Alaska, Las Vegas, and cherished family time at the cabin. She was a talented cook and baker and enjoyed hosting and making holiday traditions special. Family was the most important and valued part of Lee’s life. When asked recently about what she wished most for her family, she responded that she wants them to be safe and happy.

Lee is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Sherwin; son, Brian Cohrs; daughters, Londa (Mark) Chambers; and Jana (Eric) Lundquist; Grandchildren: Kyle (Kristine) Cohrs, Jada (Luke) Mulvaney, Dylan (Rain) Chambers, Bailey (Andrew) Zerban, Blair (Quinn) Mischke, Delaney Lundquist and Grant Lundquist; Great Grandchildren: Levi and Charlize Chambers, Vince Mulvaney, and Rylee Cohrs.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law Lavonn and Eldon Reeves.

Visitation held on Sunday, September 22 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Guardian Angels Riverview Landing in Otsego, MN, followed by a private family service at Orono Cemetery, Elk River, MN
