Age 85, a lifelong resident of Elk River, passed away on September 10th, 2022 surrounded by family. Most important to Larry was his love for his family, church/faith and community.
He was survived by a loving wife, Joyce, of 59 years; 3 daughters, Tammy (Pat) Zahler, Kathy (Rob) Scherber, Marianne (Jeff) Hagel, and 1 son, Mike Toth; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Ada Toth, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
He was a lifelong member of St Andrews Catholic Church and volunteered in many roles from Eucharistic Minister, Head Usher and Chairman of the Usher Committee to Finance and Landscape Committees and Trustee for 12 years. He loved to bring his own fresh cut flowers to decorate the church at Easter time. In 2005, he was recognized by Pope John Paul II for his significant life of volunteer contributions.
He served in the military - Army Specialist 1st Class – and was a member of the American Legion.
He devoted much of his life to the community supporting the city of Elk River in many capacities: City Council for over 40 years, Planning Commission Chairman & 4 terms as HRA Chairman.
He volunteered for numerous civic organizations including 4-H, JC’s and Sherburne County Fair Board and Senior Activity Center. He coached many years of youth sports including hockey, baseball, football and soccer, the latter of which he was instrumental in bringing to Elk River. He helped bring home many championship trophies. He was on the Board of Directors at the Pullman Place where he lived his last years and served on the Landscape, Building and Grounds and Shop committees.
Larry loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. Larry was an amazing writer and displayed his love for his family by writing poems about and for them, many of which will be displayed at the wake and funeral. He also loved to garden, both vegetable and flowers. He enjoyed camping, sight-seeing around the USA and woodworking.
Mass of Christian burial at 12:30PM on Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Church of St Andrew, 566-4th Street, Elk River, with visitation starting at 11:30AM. Visitation also on Thursday, September 15 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, with parish prayer at 7:00 PM at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main Street, Elk River.
