Larry Gene Smith, Age 78 of Ramsey, MN, was born in Waterloo, Iowa to Virgil Merle Smith and Dorothy Jeanne (Volbruck) Smith on December 17, 1945. In his teenage years, he and his brother Carl worked in their grandfather’s foundry in Evansdale, IA, Elk Run Foundry. They faithfully attended church with their mother, father and grandmothers. Larry and his brothers served honorably in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. Larry and his brother, Carl served in Vietnam and brother, Richard in Germany. Larry tried several work positions but got his real estate broker license and worked many years with his mother as she drafted homes and helped supervise their construction. He and his mother founded and built Smith Ceramics which also served as a source for the Anoka-Ramsey after school programs. Larry married Darlene in 1971. Larry lost a kidney to cancer and contracted Parkinson’s Disease as a result of exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brother Richard; 3 nieces; and 1 great-nephew. Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Darlene; brother Carl; sister Ruth Anne; nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. Visitation will be held from 12PM to 1PM with service at 1PM at CrossFire Assembly, 3700 Coon Rapids Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids, MN. Luncheon to follow service at church.
