Jimmy "Jim" Becher Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jimmy Becher

June 2, 1944 – April 27, 2025

Jimmy “Jim” Becher, of Otsego, Minnesota, passed away on April 27, 2025, at 5:53 a.m. at Mercy hospital in Coon Rapids. He was 80 years old.

Jim was born on June 2, 1944, in Glen Ulin, North Dakota — famously on the kitchen table, as he liked to say, “I was the main course.” He grew up on the family farm, where early on he learned the value of hard and honest work. He left grade school to help support his family and carried that work ethic with him for the rest of his life.

Jim is survived by Sisters: Dorothy Larson (Vernon), Shirley Kroh (Jerry), and brother Duane Donahue (Jeanette), Gloria Langner (divorced). Children: Tammy Jean Becher, James Dean Becher, and Amy Sue Becher. 12 grandkids, 9 great-grandkids, along with many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death: parents Emma and Oscar Mees, brother Delmar Becher.

He was active with the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Elk River, worked at Larson boat works, Little Falls, once employed with cultured marble plants and owned a body and engine repair shop in Otsego, MN. He could fix almost anything with his determination and resilience.

Jim had a deep love for animals. He was especially fond of his chocolate labs, Duke, and his rooster, who both brought him joy and companionship. You would often hear Jimmy stirring up the conversation with a joke or a story. His free time was spent outdoors fishing, thrifting, at local meat raffles and pull tabs while drinking a brandy seven with his granddaughter.

Family was important to Jim. He was especially close to his son James, with whom he shared not just a name but a deep bond built on mutual respect, hard work, and a love of mechanics. Together they navigated life’s ups and downs, always showing up for one another. They were two peas in a pod.

In his final years, Jim found comfort in the love and care of his children and grandchildren. His legacy lives on in their memories, their laughter, and in the lessons, he taught simply by being who he was—headstrong, generous, and true. Jim Becher’s life was one of grit and grace, humor and heart. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of his life will be held at Otsego County Park off the Mississippi River on June 1 2025, at 1pm to celebrate his life and honor the man he was.
