Jerry McCann died on January 3rd at the age of 89, surrounded by his family.
Jerry grew up on a farm in Maple Grove, the 2nd of 7 children born to Gladys and Clem McCann. After graduating from Osseo High School in 1952, Jerry attended college in Boise Idaho and at St. Thomas University. He met Carol Mitchell, at Lake Sarah Dance Hall. They married in 1955 and have 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, so far.
Jerry always had an entrepreneurial spirit. He worked many jobs, sometimes 3 at once. He thought there had to be a better way to make a living than farming. In 1964 Jerry and Carol developed the farm into what is now Daytona Golf Club. Eventually adding tennis, racquetball, pickleball and they have operated the business throughout his life. He has said that family and hard work have been the keys to his success. Though work was important to Jerry he also had fun and was quick to laugh. He enjoyed golf, pickleball, cards and traveling around the world with his beautiful wife Carol. Through their travels Jerry was able to golf in all 50 states.
Jerry will be missed by many employees and patrons of Daytona, by friends in Dayton, Otsego, Blue Lake, and The Villages in Florida, and most of all by his family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carol; children, Tom (Diane) McCann, Bruce (Cheri) McCann, Meg (Chris) Hasbrouck, David McCann (Ann), Mary Jane (John) Michaelis; grandchildren, David McCann, Danielle Hasbrouck (Chris), Rich (Mallory) McCann, Steven (Rose) McCann, Ryan (Allie) Michaelis, Grant (Katie) Leitbrouck, Niki (Sarah) Liebl, Kelsey (Andy) Kratoska, Sidney McCann, CJ McCann; great-grandchildren, Auroura, Olyviah, Rylie, Violet, Blake, Easton, Wyatt, Oliver, Lydia, Teagan, Colin, Rory, Emmy; siblings, Jim (Karen) McCann, Vince McCann, Rita Lefebvre, Jan (Tom) Grinnell, Bill (Pat) McCann, Pat (Doug) Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.
