Obituary

Jeremiah “Jer” Thomas Carlson, 22, of Ramsey, MN, passed away on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023, in his home. Jer was born June 18th, 2001, in Duluth, MN to Hatti and Joe Carlson.

Jeremiah was a premature twin born at 28 weeks. His identical twin brother, Isaiah, went home to be with Jesus just 18 short days after birth. Jeremiah spent 10 months in the NICU before going home to spend his final days with his family, with doctors not expecting him to make it to his first birthday. However, God and Jeremiah had other plans and we were blessed with 22 years with him.  While Jeremiah’s health complications and disabilities were significant, he never let that stop him. He may not have communicated like others, but he learned to communicate in his own ways. He had a “can-do” attitude and if he fell, he would get back up and keep going. Shortly after Jeremiah was born, his mom prayed and found a life verse for Jer. “Call to me and I will answer and show you great and mighty things.” Jeremiah 33:3. God truly showed us great and mighty things with Jer.

Jer was aways happy and smiling. He loved to swing in his swing.  The harder and faster you pushed him the bigger the smile Jer had.  Jer loved to play with anything that would light up, playing with his push button lights for hours on end. He also loved to “tie things up” to see how big of a knot he could make with his rope, and then taking your hand and pulling you down on the floor next to him so you could “undo his knots.” He would sit and laugh as you tried to get the rope undone. Jer loved to be outside and especially loved to be in his small pool. He loved to splash all the water out. If Jeremiah’s disabilities had not held him back, his family is confident he would have been an engineer as he loved to take things apart and see how they worked.

Jer is survived by his mother, Hatti (Billy); father, Joe (Jess); siblings, Colten, and Katelynn; grandmothers, Nancy, and Cheryl; uncles, Billy (Lisa), and Leo (Christie); and aunt, Toni.

Jer is preceded in death by his twin brother, Isaiah; and grandfather, Thomas Carlson.

A special thank you to so many caregivers throughout his life, but especially to Dr. Dove Watkin, and Dr. Steven Janousek for their 20+ years of being the best care team.

There will be a “Celebration of Life” on July 11th, 2023, at Dare’s Funeral Home in Elk River from 4 pm to 7 pm with a time of sharing at 6 pm. Jeremiah will be laid to rest with his twin brother Isaiah, exactly 22 years after his brother was laid to rest.  A grave side service will be held on July 12th, 2023, at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, at the Ray Cemetery in Ray, MN.
