Jennie was born at Hancock, Minnesota on December 2nd, 1924. She was the oldest of 12 children born to Nick and Catharina Ver Steeg. She married Lammert Van Eps on February 24th, 1943. They had 11 children. They had a variety of occupations starting with farming. They moved north to the Crookston area, then Lam started working as a Ford mechanic and Jennie raised her family and always had a large garden and did a lot of canning. She also baked bread every other day when the children were small. Later she worked as a nursing assistant at a nursing home at Shakopee and then they moved to the Willmar area and operated several different turkey farms. When they moved back to Hancock, she started driving a school bus. When Lam retired and they moved to Waskish, she continued driving the bus there. She did that for a total of 22 years. When Lam died in 1991, she moved to Jan’s house in Big Lake, Minnesota. For 15 years she volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at Elk River and Big Lake Schools. She was “Grandma Jennie” to many, many children, their parents and their teachers. She has always been very active and involved in church activities, teaching AWANA, preparing for Ukraine trips, and working as a deaconess. She enjoyed crocheting and has made many gifts for others. She liked to sew, read, and garden. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Lammert and two sons, Larry and David. She is survived by her children: Janice Roberson, Betty (Wayne) Kuiken, Dennis (Jean) Van Eps, Don Van Eps, Dan Van Eps, Ron (Magi) Van Eps, Diane (Mike) Jorgensen, Tim (Gwen) Van Eps, Denise Giese, and 23 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild, 1 brother, 6 sisters, and many nieces and nephews. She died on June 27, 2021 at the age of 96 and ½ . Funeral Service to be held at 11AM on Thursday, July 1st with visitation 1 hour prior to service at ELK RIVER BAPTIST CHURCH, 1800 8th Street NW, Elk River. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Kelliher, MN.
