James "Jim" E. Howg

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM Dare’s Funeral Home in Elk River, MN for James “Jim”  E. Howg, age 78, square danced into heaven peacefully on June 25,2026. Visitation will be at 10:30 AM.

Jim graduated from Minneapolis Southwest in 1965.l He then joined the U.S. Coast Guard and proudly served during the Viet Nam War. After his service years he worked for various packaging firms and enjoyed square dancing and camping at our state parks. After a cancer diagnosis in 2022, he moved in with his brother and his wife in Otsego as he fought cancer. He cherished the time he got to spend fishing at the cabin and watching his twin cities sports teams.

He is survived by his brother Terry (Lynn) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Lyle Sr. and Genevieve and brother Lyle Jr.

We wish to thank Dr. Trottier and his team for giving Jim four wonderful years after his cancer diagnosis.
