James "Jim" Babcock Obituary

Jim (James) Andrew Babcock, age 64, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023, at his Elk River, Minnesota home. Beloved husband to Marisela and father to Ed Babcock, Jim had an impact on everyone he met. Early in life, Jim was an avid skier enjoying the great outdoors and later enjoyed spending time with family and friends locally, at the Babcock cabin, and at the Lazy River retreat in Kansas.

Jim served as one of the Babcock 5th generation owners of The Bank of Elk River. During college, Jim worked part-time in bank operations, handling statements, filing checks, and assisting with bookkeeping responsibilities. In 1987, Jim joined The Bank of Elk River full-time and, in 1990, became a consumer loan officer. In 2000, Jim moved to the School Street branch as its consumer and real estate lender, working there until his retirement in 2011. Jim also served on The Bank of Elk River's Board of Directors from 1994 to 2011 and Metro North Bancshares, Inc.'s Board of Directors from 2001 to 2011.

Jim was well known for his kind, compassionate nature at work and in the community. He epitomized service above self and always had others' best interests at heart. Jim actively volunteered his time and talents with the Elk River Jaycees, United Way Board of Directors, Sherburne County Historical Society Board of Directors, Elk River Chamber Ambassador program and was the City of Elk River's first volunteer coordinator. Jim also volunteered with the Elk River Rotary and was a huge proponent of The Taste of Elk River, raising funds for local organizations. The Rotary recognized Jim for his outstanding community commitment with the Paul Harris Fellow Award.

Jim's parents, Edmund and Madolyn Babcock, sister Catherine Babcock, and brothers-in-law Jeffrey Beyer and John Hollowed, preceded Jim in death. He is survived by his wife Marisela and son Ed Babcock; his siblings John Babcock, Anne Hollowed (John), Elizabeth Babcock (Michael Grady), Marcia Montgomery (Hugh); and a large, extended family.
