James Carl Tonn

James Carl Tonn, 85, of Elk River, Minnesota passed away on May 1, 2023 due to complications from cancer. Born to Carl and Muriel Tonn, Jim spent his early years working the farm with his brother, Raymond Larson, and was later joined by siblings Georgie and Alvin (Butch).

Jim attended Osseo Senior High School, serving on the student counsel, playing on the basketball team, and was captain of the football team. He attended the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University, where he met Mary Nelson. They had two children, Kim and Jon. Jim served as a principal for 25 years at Sand Creek Elementary School in Coon Rapids and 5 years at Peter Enich Kindergarten Center in Anoka. In 1998, Jim married Baiying Wu. They made their home in Elk River, Minnesota. He loved woodworking, traveling, camping, fishing, and the outdoors. Jim is greatly missed by his wife, Baiying Wu; daughter Kim and husband Jeff Miles; son Jon and wife, Mary Tonn; stepson Liangnan Liu, wife Ergan, and children Isaac and Avery; granddaughter Ashley Mendez and husband Confesor, and grandson Brandon Armentrout.
