Eugene John Welinski

November 24, 1939 – March 24, 2021

Eugene Welinski was born on November 24, 1939 to Joseph & Bridget Welinski in Swan River Township.

He grew up on the farm by Elmdale, MN and somehow learned by ear how to play concertina along the way.  He moved down to the Twin Cities in 1958 and worked in some plumbing and grain elevators.

In 1960, he met Lolene Joyce Behrends and they were married on October 20, 1961.

Gene began working at Nabisco in 1967.  After he retired in 2002, he spent a lot more time with family and friends at his cabin up North.  He liked to hunt and fish.  He loved to play his concertinas!  He also liked to work and play with his big John Deere tractors.  He had just finished restoring his 1939 John Deere B tractor, which was the first tractor his dad bought for the farm.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lolene; son, David; daughter, Amy; brothers, Jim (Audrey), Edward (Renee), Alois; sister, Leona (Sylvester) Maciej.

Gene is survived by his daughters, Lori Johnson, Victoria (Terrence) Czech and Jodell (Matt) Prince; son-in-law, Randy Luggar; grandchildren, Jill, Angie, Michael, Amanda, Bridget, Cody, E.J., Jared, Jeff, Jeremy, Kianna and Josh; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jayce, Landon, Teegan, Jaelyn, Amelia, Katilyn, Levi and Owen; brothers, Jerome (Donna) and Daniel (Carol); other family and friends.

Serving as Pallbearers: Josh Czech, Cody Luggar, E.J. Welinski (grandsons), Terry Czech, Randy Luggar (sons-in-law) and Danny Welinski (brother).  Honorary Pallbearers: Michael Johnson, Jared Johnson, Jeremy Prince and Jeffery Prince (grandsons).

Mass of Christian burial is at 11:00AM on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 19921 Nightingale Street NW, Cedar, MN 55011.

Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
