Eileen (Smith) Lewis

Eileen Lewis has been a resident of Elk River, Minnesota since 2001, and passed away on January 25, 2026.

Eileen was born March 17, 1953 in Winkler County, Texas to Zay B Smith, and Dora Geraldean Smith. Zay Smith was a road construction engineer that flew a private plane between construction sites when roads in New Mexico were primitive by today’s standards. When Eileen was 7 years old, her family moved to Washington state, and her family met the Lewis family for the first time. A close friendship developed between the families that has endured through the years. In 1973 Eileen married Byron Lewis at nineteen.

Eileen put God first in her life. Her favorite book to read was the bible, and Eileen read very little else. She let the love of God guide her until the end. Eileen was strong in the strength of gentleness, of meekness, faith and love, as one of her favorite songs starts out by saying. Her thoughts about God, and His love were always clear to the end. She never lost faith in what God can do.

Eileen was a great cook, and loved to invite people over for good food, and good fellowship. She lived for others, as long as she was able. Eileen loved to paint, and make, and decorate cakes that were a work of art. Others remember her as a very sweet lady, and good friend, that reached out to others, and shared important life events with them.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Byron Lewis; her son, Nathan Lewis (Amber Lewis); five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Monday, February 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main Street NW, Elk River, MN.
