Edgar "Rheis" Maurice Asbury Jr.

February 14, 1944 was no ordinary day for Edgar & Dorthy Asbury, as their first born son took his first breath in Houston, TX at 8:30am.  They named him Edgar Maurice Asbury, Jr.  Dorothy looking at her infant son, didn’t feel that “Edgar” fit him, besides, she already had an Edgar. Neither Maurice, nor Maury seemed right either.  Hmm, Maurrrrrrice, maurrrrRice, that’s it! Now how to spell it so others don’t call him Rice.  She had it, Rhies.

Rheis spent his early years in Beaumont, TX.  Went to military school in Allen, Tx.  Eventually moving to Minneapolis, MN with his family, graduating from Washburn high school. He worked in sales, from real estate, auto supplies, large balers, and foam insulation.  This profession fit him like a glove as he always loved people.  He loved collecting and selling antiques.

In 1963 he married Barb Lindquist. They divorced in the 1980s. Together they had Blake, William, and Jennifer (Brandon).  Grandchildren are Kayla (Jordan), Linnea (Jake), Mitchell (Angela), Riley, Blake (Kelley), Alexander, Alexa, Griffin, Katelyn, and Cole (Ashley).  Great-grandchildren are Emerson, Clayton, Harris, Pearl, Kennedy, Nola, Nathan, Alice, Winnie, and Lainey.

In 1997 he married Dani Allyn.  She brought with her David (Christian), Eric (Heather), and Nicky (Chris).  Grandchildren are Brooke (Luis Chavez), Brianna (Tyler), Rheis (Kayloni), Hugh, and Chip.  Great-grandchildren are Cora, Leo, Levi, Micah, and Miles.

Honorary daughter is Stacey Hyde.

On February 4, 2025 at 8:30am Rheis took his last breath in Robbinsdale, MN from respiratory complications. 

He is survived by his sister Diane and brother Jim (Lynn), nieces nephews, and great-nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of Life service will be February 15, 2025 at Living Waters Church, 21246 Meadowvale Rd, NW, Elk River, MN. Service time is 11:30 am, doors open at 10:30 to gather and light lunch to follow.
