Age 77, of Elk River, MN passed away of ALS peacefully surrounded by family on March 31st, 2022.
Ed was born on May 17th, 1944, to Edwin & Clara Peterson in Madison, MN. He was a long-time resident of Anoka and Elk River.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Don.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty; daughters, Tanya (Dwayne) Benson and Amy Peterson; grandchildren, Gage and Avery, Ashley and Carter; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Kairi; sister, Sharon Vick of Madison, MN; brother, David (Lee) Peterson of Brookings, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Ed graduated from Appleton, MN in 1962. He joined the Air Force, served in Vietnam and was a proud lifetime member of the VFW. He graduated from St. Cloud State with a science teaching degree. He received his Masters Degree in counseling from Hamline University.
The majority of his teaching career was with Anoka Hennepin School District. He taught science, was a high school counselor at Coon Rapids High School and a Dean of Students at Roosevelt Middle School. He also spent a few years teaching in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Ed always looked forward to hunting and golfing with his close friends. He enjoyed volunteering for various organizations. He traveled worldwide with Betty and enjoyed several trips with family & friends. He was loved by his family, friends and all who came in contact with him.
A service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 4th Avenue S, Anoka, MN, with visitation starting at 10:00AM.
A private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
