Dolores Maas Obituary

Age 80 of Zimmerman, MN. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother and dedicated friend passed away on September 8, 2025 in the intensive care unit at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN.

Dolores was born on March 24, 1945 to Paul and Leora (Yelkin) Palm . She is survived by loving husband of 63 years, Gary, and four children: Laurie (Mark) Eggers of Blaine, Sharie (Tom) Hawkins of Woodbury; Brian Maas of Inver Grove Heights, and Derek (Amy) Maas of Woodbury. She was a proud grandmother to Ally Hawkins, Maddie Hawkins, Elizabeth (Jason) Kaul, Gavin Maas, and Parker Maas; sisters Paula (Leon) Mack, Pat (Steve) Mikkelson; sisters-in-law, Janice Karels, Sandy (Rod) Nelson, Joyce (Steve) Anderson; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and more. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lyonne Hanson, and niece Kim Fleming.

Dolores grew up in the small town of Wallace, SD (near Watertown), and married Gary there on July 21, 1962. Early in their marriage, Gary moved to the Twin Cities for work while Dolores cared for their young family until they could join him. They built a life together in Brooklyn Center, Crystal, and later built their dream home in Zimmerman.

Alongside raising her children, Dolores worked many years in the printing industry in Coon Rapids and St. Paul. She was known for her hard work and lasting friendships she built with coworkers-many of whom remained lifelong friends.

Dolores was loving, generous, and very social. Family was always at the center of her life, and she never missed a chance to show how proud she was of her grandchildren and cheering them on from the sidelines. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, from relatives visiting from several states away to the many neighbors and friends she and Gary cherished throughout the years.

She enjoyed gardening, socializing with friends, golf, the lake view, their pontoon, playing pull tabs with friends, and hosting gatherings – especially their annual 4th of July party – where everyone was welcome. Her sparkling smile and laughter will be dearly missed.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the church family and Pastor Jake at Faith Community Lutheran Church; and also to the compassionate staff of the North Memorial Robbinsdale ICU. Funeral services by Dare’s Funeral & Cremation Services in Elk River.
