Deloris Benson Obituary

Deloris Beverly Benson, age 93, of Elk River, MN passed away from arteriosclerosis peacefully on December 14, 2020 with loving daughters by her bedside.  She was born March 24, 1927, in Minneapolis and spent much of her life raising family in Ramsey, before spending the past 17 years in Elk River, MN.

A private memorial service of Deloris’ life will be held at Dares Funeral Home in Elk River on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a burial service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.  Due to Covid restrictions, services will be limited to a small group of family members.  A live-stream option for the service is available at the following website:  daresfuneralservice.com – Deloris Benson obituary (link will be below).

Deloris was the oldest of her siblings.  Some of her favorite memories she would share, even shortly before her passing, would be talking about spending her summers with her extended family at the farm in Gatzke.  She was very close to her cousins.  Every year up until this year due to Covid, the cousins would have their annual First Cousins' Reunion for an entire weekend, or more.  Family was most important.  Deloris married Kenneth Gerald Benson on August 19, 1960, in Minneapolis.  They raised their family for most of the long haul in Ramsey.  Deloris was a devoted homemaker and found so much joy in raising her family.  She loved gardening, yardwork, sewing, music, our dogs, cooking, baking, making quilts, house projects, time at the summer cabin, family reunions, crossword puzzles, and her annual Birthday celebrations with her daughters.  She was a "doer"; if she didn't know how to do something, she'd figure it out (even before YouTube!).  People who met her, loved her.  Her contagious smile and positive energy never went unnoticed.  She was so kind-hearted and wanted the best for everyone.  She had a "go-with-the-flow" personality, with a witty sense of humor.  Her favorite season was "yardwork" and Christmas.  Her family was everything to her.  She became primary caretaker for her late husband, Kenny, for several years before his passing in 1991 and did so with such grace.  She was an amazing role model to her children and grandchildren.

Deloris is proceeded in death by father, Adolph Wold, mother Evelyn Brandt, and stepfather, Albert Brandt; stepbrothers, Curtis, Edson and Clayton Brandt; beloved husband, Kenneth Gerald, brother-in-laws, Steve Rugland and Fred Sander, sister-in-law, Evelyn Wold.   This remarkable woman will be forever loved, remembered and missed by her children, Doreen (Rick) Womble, Jill (Dennis) Peterson, Sharon (Mike) Tietz, Valerie (Bruce) Studer, sisters, Marilyn Rugland, Beda Sander, and Sharon (Jack) Lund; brother, Dale Wold; grandchildren, Trista (John); Jason (Michelle); Jenny, Angela, Nicole, Lauren, Kenny, Logan and Erika; great grandchildren, Curtis, Kyle (Melissa); Josh, Lily, Brennan, great-great grandchildren, Laina, Sarah, Ezra, Isaac, and Jeremiah, and many cousins, nieces and nephews who she loved so much.

The family wishes to express its gratitude for the compassionate care Deloris received from Mercy Hospital in conjunction with Allina Hospice for their care in Deloris’ transitional days of life on earth; in particular, "Dr. Karl".  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association.  The family thanks all of you for your love, support and prayers.  Deloris:  Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend - you are dearly missed and we will cherish the memory of your smile, laughter, singing, caring nature, positive attitude, faith and love with us always.  May your soul rest in peace.   Heaven gained a fun and beautiful angel.
