David Edward Peterson, age 68, of Colorado Springs, Colorado—formerly of Elk River, Minnesota—went to be with our Lord on July 15, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 30, 1957, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, David was the beloved husband of Andrea (Somers) Peterson. He was known for his faith, deep love for his family, loyalty to his country, and his passion for cars. David lived with principle, gave generously, and brought joy to others with his quirky sense of humor.
In his early years, David proudly served in the United States Army as a military police officer—a role he carried with pride and purpose. After his service, he dedicated 22 years to Colorado Springs School District 11, working as the Facilities Manager at Wasson High School until his retirement. He made a lasting impact on the school community and the people around him.
Outside of work, David found joy in the simple, meaningful things—camping with family and friends, music, fishing, NASCAR, and watching stock car races. He lived fully, laughed often, and loved deeply.
He is survived by his loving wife, Andrea (Somers) Peterson, and their children: Shannon Andres (Nathaniel), Kimberly Peterson, Melanie Peterson, and Trevor Peterson. He was a proud grandfather to Trenton Peterson (Savannah), Kaitlyn Tellup, Natalie Wilson-Peterson, and Jayden Wilson, and a great-grandfather to four cherished great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Debra Johnson and Dianne Anderson, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will carry his memory forward.
David was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Edward Peterson; his mother, Norma Ann (Dyson) Peterson; and his brother-in-law, Dick Anderson.
In honor of David’s life and legacy, donations may be made to the COPD Foundation or the American Heart Association.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” — 2 Timothy 4:7–8
The family would like to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers, and support during this time.
