Candace "Candy" Swanson Obituary

Candace Marie Huberty Swanson, age 68 of Elk River, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on 7/18/24 from ovarian cancer.

Candy was born on 6/3/1956 to Patricia Ann (Carney) and Paul John Huberty at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN.

She is preceded in death by parents Paul John and Patricia Ann (Carney) Huberty, aunt Mary Lou Carney and grandfather John Leslie Carney. She is survived by husband Doug Swanson, siblings Pam Johnson (Bernie), John Huberty, children Gina Louise Gaiotti (Erik Vose), Kenneth Paul Hoops II (Amanda), grandchildren Jackson and James Hoops, and Sawyer and Weston Gaiotti.

Candy attended the Minnetonka school district and graduated from Minnetonka High School in 1974, where she was known for her outgoing and enthusiastic personality as a varsity cheerleader.

As an adult, she turned her love of exercise into a 35-year career at The Marsh Center for Balance and Fitness, where she taught fitness classes, helped people to achieve their fitness goals as personal trainer, and served as lead Taekwondo instructor. Candy’s competitive nature, hard work and perseverance propelled her to State and District Championship titles, and on to achieve the rank of 5th degree black belt.  She also won the heart of a fellow competitor, marrying Doug Swanson in 1997.

Candy’s family was the pride and joy of her life. She gave tirelessly to make sure everyone was happy, thriving and perfectly spoiled. She had more energy than all four of her grandboys, and was known for her holiday spritz cookies, signature chip dip recipe and elaborate meals at family gatherings. She had an affinity for sushi and ice cream.

Candy was also known for her enthusiastic answer to the question “How are you?”.  A resounding “FABULOUS!” would inspire others to be fabulous too.
