Bruce Harold Gruber, 71, passed away Wednesday, January 31st, 2024.
Bruce was born to Edward and Evelyn Gruber in Edina, MN on March 12th, 1952. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970 before attending Northwestern Electronics Institute. He started his 30+ year career at Sears in 1969, through a high school work program. Bruce worked for Sears in many capacities including a service technician and project manager. Sears provided many opportunities for Bruce; he traveled all over the United States training and managing different Sears facilities. He visited 49 states, the only state he never made it to was Hawaii.
As a child, Bruce enjoyed spending his summers at the lake and on his grandfather’s farm. Bruce and his cousin, Gene, were partners in crime. They enjoyed coming up with all kinds of shenanigans. His love for John Deere tractors started as a very young child. Growing up in Bloomington, Bruce played ball in the street with his siblings and the neighborhood kids. He was also involved at Mt. Hope Church with the youth group.
Through the years, Bruce enjoyed many hobbies including: fishing, hunting, golfing, repairing small engines, building his newest project, gardening, NASCAR, restoring his grandfather’s 1950 3600 Chevrolet, and his newest hobby repairing antique clocks. He was truly a Jack of all Trades, and always looking for something new to do. He spent his later years driving his John Deere with his grandchildren on his lap, watching his favorite Westerns, spending time at home, and visiting with friends.
Bruce loved his family, pets and friends – especially his four children and 11 grandchildren. While most people would describe Bruce as hard working, independent, stubborn, and determined, his children describe Bruce as their biggest fan and greatest role model. He was proud to provide for his family and to impart his wisdom onto them. He made an incredible impact in many lives and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Evelyn Gruber; and his cousin, Gene Peterson.
He is survived by his children, Nathan Gruber, Blythe Gruber, Amanda (Mike) Effertz, Joelle (Adam) Ayotte; his grandchildren, Mackenzie Gruber, Kylie Gruber, Madison Gruber, Aekinn Gruber, Dakota Gruber, Kaila Gruber, Kolten Kean, Emily Effertz, Zander Effertz, Jackson Havisto, and Conrad Ayotte; his brother, Dennis (Pam) Gruber; his sisters, Elaine (Rob) Eichberger, Coralee Bauer, Kathy (Mike) Saleck.
Services will be held at a later date.
