Bonita Maxine (Nelson) Johnson

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, auntie and friend made her journey home to the Lord on November 29th, 2024, passing peacefully at her daughter’s home surrounded with family & love.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy & Earl Nelson; sister, Patricia (Bob) Forster; grandson, Jason Johnson; great nephew, David Forster Jr.

Bonnie grew up in North Minneapolis and had a great love for music as well as cooking for family & friends.  Her door was always open & welcoming to anyone in need of a friend, you never left her home hungry.

The image of friends and family bringing Tupperware for leftovers was a common thing that speaks to the comfort and generosity of her heart.  Music in her home was a given as she would dance in the kitchen while everyone enjoyed in anticipation the sweet aroma of her culinary skills.  She never met a stranger – for to know her was to end up her friend.  She will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bonnie’s name may be directed to Make-A-Wish Foundation Minnesota.

A Celebration of Bonnie’s life will be at Noon on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main Street, Elk River, with visitation starting at 11:00.
