Alice Thorson

Alice Thorson, age 92 of Zimmerman, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Alice was born on October 4, 1932, in Big Lake, MN. She was the daughter of Gunnar and Nina (Syverson) Anderson. On June 18, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Thorson. Together they had six children.

Alice was a compassionate Registered Nurse where she specialized in mother-baby care. In addition to their own children, she and Bob were foster parents to several other children.

She was a faithful member at Hope Lutheran Church in Orrock. She was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage and enjoyed quilting and painting. She had a gift for music and played a variety of instruments. She was the church organist at Hope Lutheran Church and for many years, she played accordion at the Norsk Hostfest in Minot, ND. While raising her children, she taught piano lessons, and she loved playing piano at the annual “Norwegian Family Christmas” while the family sang along.

Alice left this comforting passage from the book of Matthew for her children “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you"

She is survived by her husband, Robert of nearly 70 years; children Jeff (Karen), Annette (Lonnie) Odegard, Karen (Scott) Knoll, Greg (Ana) and Phil (Robin); 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister LaVerne; foster sister Arlene; and other relatives & friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher, and sister, Elaine Fink.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10AM Monday, June 2nd at Hope Lutheran Church in Orrock (26498 180th Street, Orrock Township) with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Orrock Cemetery.  Please send memorials (in Alice Thorson's name) or floral arrangements to Hope Lutheran Church.
