Milan Cook Obituary

Age 78, of Coon Rapids.  Passed away on May 15, 2019.

Milan was born on April 3rd, 1941 in Graceville, MN. He graduated from Shanley High in Fargo, ND. He was active in Football and wrestling and was voted “Mr. Courtesy” and his friends called him “Cookie”. Later he met the love of his life on a blind date. They married July 6th, 1963 and were together almost 56 years.

They moved to Coon Rapids in 1966. He worked at Honeywell & later for construction outfits. He then worked at Smith Lumber for several years, he started his own construction business doing additions, homes and a variety of work. He, his wife, and family built 3 homes around the Minneapolis area. Finally, he worked at Spring Lake Park Lumber for almost 15 years. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s in December 2002 and retired December 2006.

Milan enjoyed Black Jack, cruises & any projects that involved helping others. He loved staying with friends in Arizona each year.   

Milan is survived by wife, Joni; daughter, Brendalee (Greg) Holst, her children, Mike (Page), Alli (Nick) Mabin, Curt (Hailey Benson); son, Paul (Marie), his children, Jim, TJ (Rachel); daughter, Ann (Rob) Quade, her children, Kayla & Travis; daughter, Renee Cook; 7 grandkids named above; 4 great-grandbabies, Brooklyn, Leo, Leland & JJ; sisters- in-law, Carol Bergoust (who resided with them for the past 16 years), Linda (John) Piper, Maryanne Cook and Donna Baker; other family and friends.

He greatly loved talking and laughing with friends and family. His life touched many and he will be remembered and missed by all. 

A Celebration of Milan’s life will be at 11:00AM on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main St, Elk River, with visitation one hour before service.  Visitation also on Thursday, May 23 from 4:00-7:00PM, also at Dare’s Funeral Home.
