76, of Elk River, MN (formerly Anoka) died peacefully Monday, August 26, surrounded by his wife and children. He battled lung cancer for 8 years and fought courageously so he wouldn't need to leave his family so soon. He is now at peace. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and he lived selflessly, always putting his family first.
Gary was born 12/11/42 in Minneapolis, MN, to Ernest and Gladys Dahl. He graduated from Mound High School, and later received a Bachelor's Degree in History and Spanish from the University of MN.
Gary loved his country and law enforcement. He served in the Army, worked for the Secret Service, and had a career as a criminal investigator for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in St Paul, MN.
He had a passion for woodworking and carpentry. He designed and built two cabins over the years, and many other beautiful things for his family.
Gary is survived by his wife Kay; children, Chris, Jeff and his wife Crystal, Amy and her husband Walker; grandchildren, Ellie, Lauren, Wyatt, Cecelia, Avery, Penny, and Watson; brother Roger and his wife, Laurie.
Gary will be remembered for his kindness and gratitude, sense of humor, love for his family, and love for the Lord.
Funeral service at 11:00AM on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 S 4th Avenue, Anoka with visitation starting at 10:00AM.
