William “Bill” Simertz, Age 90, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2021 in Elk River, MN
Preceded in death by his loving wife Jerry (12/5/2020) of 63 years, survived by his children Josh, Mary (Brian) McGibbon, Colleen (Al) Bird, Jim (Emily Frye), Denise (Troy) Henke, grandchildren, Chris Fortin, Cassie Fortin, Nikki (Chris) Masimore, Ricki (Ryan) Skalicky, Bailey (Kory Eik) Mevissen, great grandchildren Christopher Jr, Ethan, & Remington, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bill was born in Island Park MN, a graduate of Mound High School, he served in the US Navy during the Korean War, became a Journeyman Plumber and was a member of Plumbers Local #15 for 65 years. He raised his family in New Hope, MN and eventually retired to Nowthen, MN where he continued to keep himself busy with tinkering around their property, mowing at the sod farms, and becoming quite a craftsman of pouring raw porcelain. He and Jerry traveled the US with their porcelain business and met many wonderful people and friends over the years. His passion was family, friends, and food. He loved to grab a bite with friends and family alike, and he especially enjoyed his monthly “Mounds boys breakfast” at the American Legion in Wayzata.
Due to COVID concerns, the family is planning a celebration of his and Jerry’s life later this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association and Guardian Angels Senior Services.
